How do you know that a period is over in the school? By hearing the sound of the bell right!

Sound

A sound is a form of energy which produces a sensation of hearing in our ears.

The sound is produced when something vibrates. The vibrating body causes the medium (water, air, etc.) around it to vibrate. In humans, the sound is produced by the voice box or the larynx which is a bump like structure in the throat that moves when we swallow food.

How do we hear the sound

When sound waves reach our eardrums and make it vibrate, this vibration is sent to the inner brain from where the signal goes to the brain. Brain understands the signal and this makes us able to hear and understand the sound.
