What are Antonyms?

Antonyms are words that have contrasting or opposite meanings. Antonyms are rooted in the Greek language. The Greek word anti means opposite, while onym means name.

Antonyms carry the opposite meaning of the word in context. The word antonym has been derived from the Greek word- ‘Anti’ which means Opposite, and ‘onym’ which means name, i. e. Antonyms are the words that have the opposite meaning from the word in reference. They are also used for expressive writing and speaking.
