Singular/Plurals

Rule 1: For some words 's' is added at the last to make them plural.

E.g.

BottleBottles
CupCups
DeskDesks

Rule 2: Add 'es' for noun ending in ch, s, x sounds.

E.g.

WifeWives
WolfWolves
LeafLeaves
LifeLives

IMP: Exception to the rule: roof. The plural of roof is roofs and not rooves.

 

Rule 3: Some words remain same in plural form.

E.g.

SheepSheep
DeerDeer
SeriesSeries
SpeciesSpecies
FishFish

Imp rule and Exception: Fish is used for the same type of many fish. Fishes is used when types are different.

Some other plural forms:

No fixed rule - When "y" is at the last then in some words "ies" is used while in others simply "s" is added at the last.
